Hours 16 year old can work?

What is the max of hours a 16 year old can work please? My child has left school and now has an apprenticship.
I was told 40 hours a week is the max they can work is this correct?
Do you include the college hours into this?
If they say worked 45 hours is that illegal?
Or would they be paid for 40 standard rate and the extra 5 hours as overtime?

A 16 year old apprentice should not be made to work over 40 hours a week including college hours. Full stop. :A0
