Washing machine recommendations

Options
I purchased a Beko washing machine from ao.com in June last year. Since then, in and out of warranty, the machine has experience several issues which ao.com made every attempt to put right. The control board was replaced yesterday, but the machine still demonstrated the same fault and a new fault occurred where the drum would not fill with water. ao.com is waiting to hear from Beko; I'm likely to receive a refund or a replacement.

The whole experience has put me off Beko. The washing machine is just over a year old and has been very unreliable. Are there any recommended brands I should perhaps consider instead?

  • I like our LG washing machine. 10 yr warranty on the direct drive motor (no belts). Had to replace the drain pump the other day and it was really easy (after looking on youtube) and only cost £15 for the part
  • We've a Samsung ecobubble, bought because it offered a 3 year warranty & then was in a sale.
So far so good. Also it does a default wash in just over an hour, which is brilliant for getting school uniforms sorted promptly.

I am recommending LG as well. A lot of my friends have bought LG and say they are good.
Me I bought a £449 Bosch and I hate it.
  • Thanks for the replies. I'm on the lookout for an LG. Any recommendations for retailers?

Word on the forums is Miele is bulletproof and will likely last 10-15 years, maybe 20+ years. AO.com is selling one for £900 (after cashback) but that's mega expensive.

got an lg about a year ago and it seems really good - about 400 from currys
  • Sounds like LG or Samsung are the ones to go for. What are Bosch like these days?

I would go for another Beko as the reviews seem good and they are value for money but I think the reviews are left after only a few days of owning the appliance rather than evaluating it after long-term use. I'm a bit concerned about the reliability of Beko, but the customer service from them and AO.com has been really good.

If you're up for that I'd recommend a Miele WKR570 or a bit cheaper WKH120.
  • I have an LG F1456QD which I bought three years ago. I have had no maintenance issues with it. It is very quiet. See this washing machines page for a summary of the brands available. The highest build quality washing machines are built by the Germans (Miele, Bosch, Siemens) and South Koreans (LG, Samsung). These brands are more expensive, but in the medium term there are usually cheaper through superior reliability.

    Bit of news...

ao.com rang me yesterday to let me know that Beko are happy to replace the machine free of charge.

A Beko machine of the same spec as mine (A+++ energy rating, 8kg capacity, 1400rpm spin) is not available from ao.com. A similar spec Beko from ao.com is A+++ energy rating, 9kg capacity and 1200rpm spin, but ao.com will upgrade my replacement to a higher spec Beko (1400rpm spin, 10kg capacity, A+++ energy rating) free of charge as a goodwill gesture for all the hassle I've had. I thought that was a brilliant gesture. The new machine is coming tomorrow :j

Not good news, I'm afraid. I setup the replacement washing machine today and ran a drum clean programme before using it for washing. On a full spin it made the most horrendous whirring noise (sounds like a F1 car :rotfl:). I managed to record the noise and sent it to friends and family to see what their thoughts are - all have said it's not right. I'll contact ao.com and see what they say.

Update: Spoke to ao.com earlier and the adviser also heard the noise - he agreed it wasn't right. He suggested it could be caused by an empty drum on a cycle. I mentioned my previous Beko or my mum's didn't emit the same noise when the drum was empty on a cleaning cycle before first use. I've loaded the drum with laundry and started a wash cycle to see if the noise reoccurs during a full spin. ao.com said they'll ring me back tomorrow morning to see what the outcome of a loaded cycle was. If the fault reoccurs then they'll send out an engineer to inspect the machine. I won't opt for a repair but will choose a replacement machine from a different manufacturer instead.
