I buy the regular toastie loaf from aldi, keeping it in a metal bread bin and it regularly keeps a week if not longer...I've found other brands do go off quicker0

My home-made loaf lasts about 3 or 4 days, then starts getting too hard. I don't think it gets mouldy, even though it doesn't have preservatives in it.
Warburtons seems to last a scientifically long time! I think it usually takes a week or two before mould starts to form. I would throw the bread away if you can see mould on it, don't make yourself ill.0 -
As well as moving your bread bin away from the cooker you might want to give a good hot water wash and dry to the inside - if you have any mould spores got out of the wrapping and into the bin they may be getting into the new bread. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Ive been reading up what the main mould inhibitor in bread recipes is and its vinegar. I was expecting some exotic chemical
The mould itself sounds like it's pretty bad for our bodies so from now on any sign of it and the bread is going in the bin.
I hope the recipes that come with my new bread maker include vinegar.
In keeping with OS standards I've bought a 5litre bottle of white wine vinegar to clean the kitchen and the bread bin. I already use it to clean the dishwasher etc0 -

OK so it's seems I cursed myself with this!
I bought an aldi loaf last Friday...BB date was 11th September but I didn't look at this as I'd never had an issue before...today OH goes to put a slice in the toaster and noticed mould in the bottom of the slice and the same on the rest of the loaf (we had about half left)
That might teach me to check dates and to freeze slices we won't use soon !0 -
Part of the problem is that my local supermarket only display bread with 2-3 days of the le felt before bb date no wonder they go off so quick. That way we have to keep going back to bread and any impulse buys they can tempt us with.
Anyway took delivery of my mini bread maker yesterday and voila!
had fresh homemade crusty loaf with boiled eggs for breakfast , bliss. I just used a luxury soft white bread mix where you just add water, it was lovely. I have another loaf baking now because the first only lasted till lunch time it was so tasty. I was so proud of my acheivement , home made bread produced with my machine and my one good arm.:T0
