Getting rid of a London-sized Mortgage

I haven't seen the job contract yet, as I had to pay £500 for a medical. We are now debating when to tell people. Firstly, after I have signed the contract, but we are also debating about waiting until after the wedding next month. I haven't told my family because my family is big, LOUD, highly involved and smothering. I want the decision to be mine alone, so I don't mind waiting for a while to tell them.
Secondly, there has always been a bit of jealousy between my MIL and my parents. As my parents are big, loud and smothering, she always feels like my partner and I prioritise them. It's not true - we visit her more often than we visit mine. But mine have always been the first people I call when I need someone or when I have an emergency and I value their opinions very highly (most of the time...).
It's been worse with the wedding stuff. I think I mentioned earlier on that my parents were being annoying, but were paying for part of the wedding. That's been 100% resolved and we are back to 100% love. She's been jealous that they've been involved in the decision making and she hasn't, and so has decided that she will also be involved in the decision making now by criticising us and making unreasonable demands. She is very negative about it - she's been saying that she will 'suffer through it', that there might be a fist fight between members of her family, that it will be a disaster, and that it will something to 'get through'.
I can see that her critical behaviour, and a combination of not having his dad around when growing up, has really affected my partner's self confidence. For example, his brother is doing a reading for our wedding, and we agreed to make a choice between two. He and I chose the preferred one, but didn't relay the preferred choice to his brother. She said, word for word - no lie, "That's why you are a bad son and a bad brother." Isn't it Relationship 101 to avoid attributing 'you are X' words to a person? A pretty harsh reaction to something that was certainly not a big deal.
Following on from that, we have had a handy man disaster! I asked him to do some bits and bobs around the house, one of which was to fix a curtain rod that was pulling out of the rod, but still hanging. He had done some previous jobs for us and did a good job. I left my partner in charge, who worked from home that day. The builder said we needed a batten on the wall, and he installed three giant, crooked, pieces of wood on the wall, some of which overlapped with the window, held up with 3 inch washers. It looks disgusting. He needs to take out the wood now, and I think that it will leave a horrible hole in the wall and we might need to get a plasterer in. He said that the only solution was to get one really large piece of wood and have it go across the window. I said I didn't want to board up the window, and he said there was nothing more to do.
Disaster. This is our airbnb room and right now it is covered in dust, has no curtains, and has three disgusting pieces of wood with industrial hardware poking out. I honestly don't know what to do. He's going to return to pull the boards out and then we will be left with a destroyed wall and no hung curtains. Time to learn how to plaster via Youtube.
I have done a quick book clear out and will be sending them off for £10. I also made £3 off selling some things, I have had quite a bit of interest in other things too.
Hustle Money Alert I also wanted to tell you guys about JobSpotter. It is a new app I have been using. You take photos of job adverts in stores, along with a photo of the store front. You get about £0.50 for each job advert. So far, I have hustled £20 off it, going for a couple of walks and taking some photos. It is @m@zon gift vouchers only, so not as good as cash.
I have some market research coming up and my partner has also done a bit of market research to get £15. We are still just saving up for the upcoming months, so no OP, but I remain committed to OPs and love reading your diaries every day.Mortgage started at £318,000 in June 2016. Hey Tropically,
Just caught up on your posts. MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am a little jealous of your new job and location. I bet it's all a little scary and exciting all mixed up together.
I'm currently waiting to hear about a job interview I had last week, although KI won't be holding my breath as on the way home I realised I messed up their test. Silly me got my units confused.

Thank you Runders!! How is the job search?
Long time no speak. I have been looking at MFW every day, but not had any successes to report!
I am now a married woman! My wedding was £1.3k over budget, and I am now trying to sell off all my wedding goods to hopefully recoup that back! We have a damage deposit due back to us, and it is £1k if we didn't damage anything... We overbought the booze by a huge amount and am going to now become a bootleg booze dealer.
Anyone want to buy 6 bottles of unopened Appleton Rum or any other booze (we have plenty!) How about 24 bottles of wine?
Feeling pretty good afterwards! It was a whirlwind and with the weather so gorgeous, I haven't been able to settle! I'll feel excellent to recoup some of the budget.
Small win:
I also managed to cash out Y0ugov!!!! Can you believe it? £50 after... 6 years!
£20.29 on PA
£49.55 on £co thanks to our Iceland holiday
We also have some more Airbnbers so should have another £400ish coming in this month.
The joint account is sitting at £8,175 which is good! As per my earlier flow chart, we want to have £7,800 in the joint account, so although some of that is earmarked for moving expenses we are doing well.
A new pay day has arrived! I had a bit of a spendy day yesterday because I took my cousin out for dinner and drinks. I only see her once every 5 years, so I think it's fine.
I will not spend more than £100 for the rest of the month on anything except moving expense. My goals are:- Sell as much as possible before moving
- Consume as much food as possible from the house
- Be proactive about moving things so new hubby doesn't get stressed

Congratulations! I hope you had a fabulous wedding day0

Congratulations! It sounds as though you didn't go significantly over budget especially if you have the deposit to come back yet plus there will be no need to spend on booze at home for a while by sounds of it :rotfl:0

The salary, when taking into account the difference in currency and cost of living, is slightly more than my partner makes now. So um. I think this is happening?

We got some of our booze from Asda. Annoyingly we have three full bottles of gin where someone broke the seal on it but didn't drink anything. Why, wedding guests? Why? Asda was excellent. I asked customer service if I could return the unopened bottles and then they said yes. I took them back to the nearest store and the click and collect lady went off with them, saying she would process the refund online and it would go back on my card. If it works, I will be delighted as that will be £80 back. On the other hand, I don't currently have any paperwork so I am hoping it would work.
If it does work, we will only be £1,135.59 over budget. No word on the deposit yet but hopefully it is being refunded. Is no news good news? Then I will only need to make £135 in wedding sales. Quite doable. Unfortunately people are so eager for their wedding to appear on blogs etc. that there isn't any way to sell my wedding story. Does anyone know any tips to make money back from wedding?
We've had some viewings for our house. We have a great candidate although unfortunately they want unfurnished. I'd rather not get rid of our furnishings since it's extra stress. I have so many things listed for sale on websites but can't do household items yet. Does anyone know the best way to sell plates, cups etc.? Gumtree, Fbook, nextd00r, eb@y are all being utilised.Mortgage started at £318,000 in June 2016. Original MF - 2041

Yay to refund from Asda for a lovely £84!
£1,131.59 overbudget and I haven't chased about the deposit. I made a fuss about the deposit when we were in the run up to the wedding so I am not going to do so again until they are late to refund it. Before the wedding, I had to pay a £1000 damage deposit and then, the venue told me the week before the wedding that they would pay any money owed to any third party suppliers from the deposit. I told them no, that is a deposit for damages and should not be used to pay any third parties. I would pay third parties directly and they should have no access to the damage deposit. I was worried that a third party would take an opportunity to take money from the deposit for no reason. Everyone on DFW and MFW knows that it's harder for someone to take money from you than to keep money from a deposit. It's similar to why people shouldn't turn unsecured debt into secured debt! Anyway, they all agreed and there was no third party charges after the wedding (but there could have been if I hadn't kicked up the fuss!)
I have sold a few more things for the move, so the move total is up to £78. Perfect, only £1500 to go.Mortgage started at £318,000 in June 2016. Original MF - 2041
