Tracing Mortgages and Endowments

Hi. I've got a couple of questions in relation to endowment policies.
My father passed away in 2014 with no paperwork or much of anything left behind to try and track down his assets. To complicate matters he lived in Spain but retained a residence in the UK in Hatfield. I was able to track down one of his bank accounts with Barclays.
Before my father died he always mentioned he had an endowment policy that he was due to cash in or receive when he was 60 (which would have been last year). This was backed up by friends also telling me the same thing. The only thing is no-one knows who it was with nor is there any paperwork.
Is there anyway to trace an endowment policy?
Another question I have is, it has come to light that my late father may have had a mortgage is there any way to trace this also? Also is there any way to find out if my dad owned any property in the UK?
Sorry to be scarce with some of the information but it's really all I have to go on at the moment... I need to check a few other things too as it's now come to light he may have different bank accounts!
Any help or advice would be appreciated, and if you need to know anything else - just let me know.
Thanks

You need some clues. Are there no Barclays Bank Statements showing regular payments to an insurance company (Endowment) or Bank/Building Society (Mortgage).
If he took the mortgage with Barclays the Endowment was probably with the Woolwich (Barclays)I am a Mortgage Broker

No, unfortunately I don't have many clues to go on or bank statements. My late fathers belongings/paperwork was all hidden from me when he died and attempts to track anything down always fails.
Unfortunately at the moment I can't afford a solicitor to do all this for me, so I'm trying to track and trace what I can on my own.
I'm currently in the process of applying for probate - after which, I hope to get a copy of his credit report which will show a bit more information - mainly any other bank accounts he had (my father used to bank with little to unknown local banks as opposed to mainstream (although he had an account with Barclays - this didn't appear to be his main account).0
