Hi,
I'd appreciate your advice. I currently owe the rate collection agency approx £2000. ( live in N Ireland) I have paid at least that to them already was totally head in the sand mode I feel so stupid ...my mum is mentally ill and lives in my house and didn't pay the rates... They are in my name as I'm the homeowner...I'm so embarrassed at my lack of being able to sort this It is being dealt with by the enforcement of judgement office in Belfast. My credit file was/is very poor. I have recently cleared an account and one has a small balance on 0% card which I was staggered to get. I can comfortably pay ejo £200 per month as I am not paying the crazy interest rate that I was paying... The ejo has put a charging order on the house for the non payment of rates... I know I have been stupid...please don't bash me! However when I check my credit file it tells me that I Have no ccjs. From what I read on here a CCJ would have to be issued for a charging order to be obtained. I'm feeling scared at the min of speaking to anyone about this, I mostly cry about it if im honest. I don't know what to do and how to find out about the CCJ/charging order.. Would I rock the boat if I asked about it. Sorry if this sounds garbled and nonsensical!! The plan was for me to remortgage in six months I think that it has all gone out the window.. Any advice appreciated.

Hi Cocothecat,
I don't know much about CCJs, rate collections etc and so I am not able to comment. But I just wanted to say well done for addressing the problem and hopefully someone with more knowledge would be better placed to advise you.
Do you have the Citizen's Advice Bureau in NI? Stepchange is a really good charity that help people dealing with debt. They offer free services and I just googled them and they operate in NI, here is the link https://www.stepchange.org/DebtadviceinNorthernIreland.aspx
I hope that this helps,

Hi,
The laws are different in NI so you need specific advice applicable to you.
The link in the post above should be your starting point.

More than likely this statutory charge may have been added to your property record at Land Registry NI rather than to your credit file.
Once everything is sorted all all debts paid ensure this charge is removed.0 -
Thank you all for your advice . I'll have a look at step change. Much appreciated. I will report back x0
