Your TV has 2 HDMI inputs, but no optical digital.

Your Sky box has an HDMI output, and optical digital ouput.

You can buy a soundbar for any TV of course, it's all about the connections.
Best thing for you to do is have an HDMI lead from Sky box, into Soundbar, then another from the Soundbar to the TV. This will get the best sound from the Sky box, and the soundbar then passes the picture on to the TV.
I very much hope your Sky box is connected via HDMI already. You will then need the soundbar plus another HDMI lead. Try a £1 one first.
Almost any soundbar will improve on your TV, budget is up to you.

    Wow!
That's brilliant - in simple terms!
and thanks for checking the ins & outs :) much appreciated
  • Thanks everyone for all the advice - after an initial purchase & a return to Argos (and a domestic!) at weekend, we now have a fully installed & working Logik sound bar & Wireless subwoofer from Currys for just over £70 all simply connected with one digital optical cable straight from the Sky box to the sound bar (bypassing the "old" HDMI TV), & a quick tweak on one of the sound settings on Sky & everything now runs & sounds great. (Hey! I sound like I know what I'm talking about!). But seriously - thanks for all the advice :):)

Good stuff. You would 'bypass' the TV anyway - the path is usually source (sky/dvd/whatever) - sound device (amp, soundbar) - TV. TV is usually at the end.
Anyway, when you do upgrade your TV, it'll be easy to do the connections as they won't change between Sky box and soundbar.
