Potential loan advice

Total newbie so please be gentle.
I am a UK resident who has been a SAHM for the last 5 years, prior to that I was working & banking in Russia. My husband and I own our home in our joint names, with a mortgage of 30% in his name alone.
For the past 14 years ALL my banking has been either abroad or through our joint UK account (which we have for the last 4 years). I had a look at my credit rating online and it was POOR.

Now I want to take out a 'personal development' type loan to do a professional course of about £6500. I want to do this is my name, and I don't need to do it for about 9 months.

My question is who should I approach and what should I do in the mean time to up my changes of getting the loan? Thanks so much for any advice.

Comments

  • I should add that I think my credit rating is poor because I have never been given any credit.
  • Get on the ER.
Get a credit card (if you can), spend and clear in full each month.
Apply to someone who will allow your household income to be taken into account.
  • Thank you!
  • Do you know of good places to start for a credit card? And how easy is it to get a loan of that size for studying?
  • Try your own bank or one of the sub prime companies.

Without an income of your own and a thin credit file, you're going to find it challenging to get the loan.
  • How are you going to pay it off without an income?
