bankruptcy discharge

I applied for bankruptcy in 2009 but because of various complications I had a restriction of 7 years added to it. My bankruptcy ended in August this year, and I have since called the county court to enquire as to whether I get any paperwork sent to me to prove discharge. Firstly they cannot find any record of me in their files, and secondly they are saying Ive got to write in to the court and send £70 for a discharge certificate. Its all very confusing....does anybody have any experience of this? Should I be writing to OR instead? Is £70 really the cost for a discharge certificate? If thats the case, then Im going to have to go without!! Thanks for any advice

Hi there,
Normally you would receive a letter from the Official Receiver to confirm you have been discharged and you could keep that as your proof. If you would like the actual discharge certificate then you need to apply to the court that dealt with the bankruptcy and unfortunately, there is a fee for this. The technical manual doesn't confirm the fee amount, just that it is payable.
You can ask the court if there is any ability to waive some or all of the fee if you are struggling. Or you could save up for the fee if you are quite keen on having the discharge certificate for your own records.

But that's just for people with BRU's right? Everyone else is automatically discharged but don't normally get any letter ...?0 -
Just call the OR you dealt with oringinly and ask for a copy of discharge emailed to you...mine were happy to do so.0

You can email discharge.queries@insolvency.gsi.gov.uk and they will send you a PDF pretty much by return. That's what I did.0

That is correct. If there is no BRU then you should be automatically discharged on the 12month anniversary of the bankruptcy order. Sorry for any confusion.

Hi,
A BRU/O does NOT affect your discharge from bankruptcy. If you have a BRU/O against you then you should still ordinarily be discharged from your bankruptcy at the end of one year.
What a BRU/O does is extend the restrictions upon bankrupts (can't borrow more than £500.... etc) for a certain period AFTER your discharge.
Unless you failed to cooperate and had your discharge suspended (potentially indefinitely) then I would expect that your bankruptcy ended sometime in 2010.
You would remain on the insolvency register until your restriction ended (plus 3months).
