it must depend on your machine i think wether you will find a walking foot to fit.On mine it is a big fat foot that has a sort of lever which fits over the nut that keeps the foot on. As the foot goes up and down,it pushes the lever which makes the walking part work. It is very nice for stitching my husbands motor cycle leathers.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have a Toyota machine, which I bought about 7 years ago.

Can't tell you why yours is sewing on it's own, but I'd definitely look into getting a new foot pedal.

Was the needle in the fabric before you started sewing? If not, that's why you got the whining. All machines do that if you don't put the needle into the fabric first: it strains the engine, hence the whine.

Walking Foot + Quilter Low Shank
The Walking Foot, sometimes referred to as the even feed foot, is designed with a set of feed dogs (teeth) which allow the fabric to feed without shifting or slipping and eliminates the problem of the underlayer of fabric coming up short

The Walking Foot is a must for the quilter and can be used with either straight or decorative stitches. The quilter guide will help maintain perfect parallel lines with stitching

    Now I know too.

Did yours come with your machine, has it got a special function to use the walking foot, or did you just buy it separately?

these people do different feet depending on model and universal feet

I haven't tried them myself but they were recommended to me by someone else.

I understand the cheaper Berninas are not made in Switzerland any more (not sure any of them are - have a look on their website)

A majority of the Berninas are now made by Janome in Japan or Tiwan and have been for a number of years.........especially the embroidery models...

My second machine bought in 1968 was a Bernina 707 minimatic, (a 21st present from my mother) I swapped it for a Janome in 1984 and have had Janome ever since.

Janome make the only combined embroidery/sewing machines with an integrated embroidery unit........the other machines have to have the embroidery unit attached.

I have just bought a Janome 11000 which I am delighted with. They make a little machine called a Janome Gem the Platinum model is quite light but has a very good range of stitches. A lot of quilters both in the UK and the US buy this machine for workshops.
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.
