If you buy a filter coffee in your local wetherspoons, you can have free refills until 1400 and use the free Wi-Fi. I often go there for coffee and a bite to eat and often see people working there. the staff don't seem to mind and doesn't get very busy until late morning / lunchtime.

As others have said. Cafes, pubs etc. Switch around.
Sometimes I work from home and just go and sit out on an empty common. You can create a Wifi connection on a smartphone these days.0 -
Ok thanks for great thread answers.. So either a Wetherspoons, or a Library with fast Wi-Fi or Fibre broadband, and set up there...
Hotel lobbys are a great idea, but i think i might get moved on for using free wifi and not being a guest with room etc?
Any other ideas for free WIFI would be good? I suppose many many people must do this and use phones/ipads/laptops whilst on the move or use public places as "temporary office spaces"0 -
I would advise that, for the social side, you look at local networking events and relevant websites?
I get the "cabin fever" feeling sometimes so I have to go out and network or speak to someone online. A group that I am in have started to organise online hang outs so people can chat to each other and work at the same time.Competition Wins:

How intensive are your wifi needs? as you could just use your mobile, then you can go anywhere.0 -

I'd be very surprised if you were asked to leave - after all public parts of a hotel are available for public use and lobbies in large hotels can be very pleasant and spacious. I've seen many obvious examples of business meetings taking place in hotel lobbies. It's probably good for the hotel as it enables them to sell some extra coffees etc, and makes the lobby look busy.
Hotel policy on use of their wifi will vary - it could still be worth asking though, or you could tether your mobile, or use a 4G dongle.
Places like arts centres can also be good. I know in London both the South Bank Centre and Barbican Centre have free wifi, and you see lots of people sitting around working.0
