Applying for Mortgage and Marrying

Options
Hi, hoping someone can give me some clarity.

We've had an offer accepted on a property. We made the offer in early June and there have been delays on both sides but we now have the money transferred from my wife's savings in America, as she is fronting the whole deposit and we are in a position to move ahead.

Now we were single when we made the offer but married last week (I'm aware of the old adage of buying a house/marrying/having kids and only attempting one at a time) and now I'm realising there are a lot of documents in our single names. My wife does not intend to change her name for about a month yet (as the honeymoon we are on means it's too much hassle/money to change her passport just yet)

My question is simply, should we ask the solicitors to draw up all the documentation again in our married names? Does this cause issue with the lenders (not that I intend to keep the information from them if it is a material fact), or can we simply wait until we've completed on the house and then change everything over?

Many thanks in advance/

Probably simpler if you just leave everything in your existing names. Doesn't really matter - you don't need to change title deeds etc when you change your name, just be able to prove the change of name when you next sell/remortgage.

Your wife is entitled to use either her maiden or married name from now on as both are hers and she hasn't lost the right to her maiden name. So I'd use whatever name her ID will remain in throughout the purchase.
