I cleared mine by using olive oil drops for two weeks. I would have waited for over 2 weeks to get a routine doctors (GP) appointment, so I consulted my pharmacist who said if the olive oil did not work then I should the consult my GP. The question of syringing did not apply in my case.

The practice nurse did mine, I'd gone deaf In one ear and she agreed it was because of wax. She also pointed out that syringing can damage the wars so it is only done when absolutely necessary.
  • I'm on the olive oil drops at the moment, bought over the counter this time. Had a problem last summer where my left ear was blocked and was prescribed drops. Couldn't get to the nurse before going on holiday so it was a total of 6 weeks before I saw her, by which time my ears were clear and there was nothing to irrigate. I'm a weirdo, and after a lifetime of ear problems (at primary school, the school doctor told me I was deaf) love having my ears syringed. Don't like the new irrigation/vibrating thing as much, but that's just me. The last time was probably about 4-5 years ago. Ironically, my brother is currently having scans, etc., because he's actually going deaf.
