  • Thank you DD265 unfortunately not, it would take me two years based on current debt payments, one year us based on cutting back on EVERYTHING

  • Thanks so much for your feedback penny and poor guy next door, very useful.

Spoke to OH, he is fine w smaller holiday , but doesn't believe I do it, I believe it when I see it makes me want to it, even more now!!!

LOL, psychological tactics employed by your OH. To be fair if you have struggled with this for 12 years and got so close before there does seem to be some switch in your brain which tells you a certain level of debt is acceptable and the desire for a holiday, new car, gadget, clothes or whatever trumps the desire to be free of debt.

I used to say to those in debt I counselled that what is more important is the habit of putting money away for things rather than the impulse/quick fix spending on a credit card.

  • Personally I would go for the year, if I could be debt free in a year I'd be shouting from the rooftops! It's all about mind set and I think if you give yourself two years you may end up less focussed and more likely to slip into old habits.
Making £1,000 plus every month from home :T
  • I'd go for the year, especially as OH has said you can't!
  • You are absolutely right cmcavon, I would have previously shouted it from the roof tops...its so close, but yet sooooo far

Thank you enthusastic and Anna you are right some very clear reverse psychology going on there.

I would like to make myself accountable, how can I turn this into a diary?

You can contact a board guide and ask them to move your thread to the debt free diaries section or start a new diary with a link to this thread on the first post.

  • Problem is with blitzing it is that you'll get there (or thereabouts) then you'll slip back into your old ways....a 'little treat' here and there, a nice reward, you've earned it, you're worth it etc.

Before you know it you're back to square one and up to your eyeballs in debt. Again.

I therefore suggest taking it slower and adjusting your lifestyle so that you spend less than you earn - it's the only way to get out of debt, and stay out of debt.
  • reading tim where are you getting that idea from, surely by not spending and paying off my debt, I will know how to live within my means?

I have been paying it off nice and slow for past 12 years and see where it got me to
