Very true. As it stands I've told no one.
Now that your in the right frame of mind you need to take steps to stop it happening again!. Like putting notes on your credit report as I said earlier and informing your bank. If you make no effort to stop yourself doing this again then any complaint you make about them failing to have suitable safeguards in place is going to seem a bit hypocritical.0 -
Thank you for the advice, I promise it's appreciated and not falling on deaf ears.
I'm utterly sick of the cycle I'm stuck in, so I need to focus, like you say, on getting myself into a position where it can never happen again.
Ironically I'm reading a book on breaking addictions, I guess I've just not been a fast enough reader.
I may seem fairly unrepentant about my random choices for the use of the loan/s. At the time I just wasn't in a frame of mind where it mattered.
I've surfed an extremely low point in my state of mind, but concentrating on my family, and those far worse off than me has kept me sane, so to speak.
Gambling, for certain people, especially those with delusional traits, is worse than crack cocaine. It eats away at any sensibility with a vigour I've never encountered before.
I hope one day to help others who are afflicted as I am. But I recognise, I need to be speaking from a firm soap box. At the minute, I'm stood on a packet of French fancies.
So thank you to everyone who's commented, I've never taken anything the wrong way, I agree with 90%, and I hope I can take it onboard.0 -
Dear Biglints
I have read all of the posts and really feel sorry for you. I am sorry that it appears that there is not a way to get your money back from the banks, but wish you all the best with your complaint, I hope that it does get you somewhere. If I was you I would perhaps register on the gambling sites and ask to self exclude, I would ask for a note to be placed on all 3 credit agencies and perhaps seek help from somebody like Gamcare, Samaritan's etc somebody you can speak to.
I would do everything you can to try to prevent a reoccurrence.
Gambling can be terrible and if you struggle to stop you much do everything you can not to start in the first place.
I would seek proper advice on how to deal with the debt, try somebody like Stepchange and stay away from anybody who tries to charge a fee for their services. Don't rush to anything like bankruptcy, but take proper advice from an expert organisation like Stepchange and then take time to consider your options.
I do agree with you that your bank has in my opinion acted wrongly, however morals and legalaliry are two very different things and even if the law was to change today, it would rarely be applied retrospectively.
I wish you all the best of luck for the future, please do keep us updated how you get on and how you resolve this.
Kind regards
Richey0 -
Your kind words are very much appreciated, thank you Richey.
I'm not doing all that well today. I can't tell my partner as her next operation, they won't do it if she's under excessive stress. And the rest of my family are currently in Australia.
It's all a bit of a burden to be carrying around, I'm trying to act normal when I can barely eat and feel constantly nauseous.
Im going to see my GP again this week, see if there's anything he can do.0 -
This won't help with your current loans but in addition to Richey's advice I think you can have a CIFAS marker added to your credit files so that additional checks have to be made whenever you apply for credit in the future.0
