Hello everyone.
Posting first time here. Having very low knowledge about mortgage matters, I thought to take advise from you guys.
Thank you in advance.
I took out my mortgage in 2015 as a FTB from woolwich Barclays. (Solely on my name even though I was married)
I got divorced last month, now I would like to change my name on mortgage deed. Because previously I have used my ex's family name along with my too.
Now what are the procedures to change on mortgage deed? Also than I have to change on my passport too as a legal document to present my lender.
What else do I have to keep in mind?
How much does it cost? And how long does it take?
Thank you once again.

You don't have to change the name on the mortgage deed (and in practice can't, because it's the deed you signed at the time).

You can change the name on your mortgage account, so that the statements etc have your new name - is that all you want? It should be a similar process to changing the name on any other bank account, but the exact requirements will vary depending on the bank.

You can change your name on the mortgage account and you can also update the land registry. You need forms AP1 and ID1 (on their website) and you need to prove your change of name and have it verified by a solicitor. It cost £40 plus whatever the sol charges.

I am also planning on changing my name after my paperwork has gone through now - is there any need to change the land registry forms if you have proof of your name change (slightly different circumstance than OP - not suggesting that OP shouldn't change, more wondering for my purposes)

If you mean after your mortgage and purchase is set up in your name now and then once all complete you are changing your name then I don't know if legally it's ok or not.

We originally purchased our house under our single names, we then married and subsequently changed the whole family surname (husband found proper family history) we never updated the mortgage and was never an issue. We can prove who we were then and the name change. It did become an issue on a remortgage as we applied in our new name and the new mortgage company wanted the land registry updated before proceeding. So it slowed things down that way. I spoke to or current mortgage company to see if they wanted update our names and they weren't bothered. We are clearly not trying to defraud and that's what they worry about.

So in short, as long as the mortgage is paid on time every month they won't really worry about the name but may be an issue on remortgage.

No need to change the deeds at the time you change your name, all you need is evidence at the time you next sell or remortgage that you have changed your name.

I just popped into our local Halifax branch to change my name on the mortgage, took a copy of my deed poll along as evidence. I didn't bother changing my name on the house deed, just dealt with that when the house was sold.
