Co Op Cashminder upgrade

I popped into my local CoOp today to pay in a cheque, the agent said to me that I was eligible for a upgrade to a standard current out but this was subject to a full credit check.

My bankruptcy was removed from my credit report last December, but I have a BRU entry still on credit report. The BRU gets removed in 5 weeks. I did decline to try for the upgrade as even tho their system said I was eligible I'm sure when they run the credit report it would decline.

Has anyone else been able to upgrade their account with entries on their reports? Oddly enough Nationwide approved me for credit card but declined a full current account recently. Natwest approved a credit card as well, I didn't think I would be able to get any "normal" credit with the BRU on file. BRU was satisfied in 2014 so not breaking any restrictions by applying

Co op declined me twice for an account upgrade once after bankruptcy discharge and again some considerable time later...stuff em I looked around and found a provider more than happy to open a full account for me in the end,

I agree it could be a waste of a credit search. On the plus side I asked for a savings account and that was approved. Every time I've asked before it's been declined. I am happy to stay with the co op...I'm gonna let the BRU come off next month then apply for the upgrade.

I am tempted to try but I think it could be a waste of a credit search! After waiting this long another few weeks won't make much different. You would think their system would know about the BRU from their monthly feeds from the credit reference agencies.

I called and spoke to a helpful person, he though the application may decline over the BRU so I'm defiantly going to leave it til next month to apply.
  • Co-Op won't upgrade whilst adverse is on file - I used to work there.

There was a poster on here who got upgraded, but I (and my branch) never saw it in my time there.

The issue is the system shows people as looking like they'd get an upgrade.... but as soon as bankruptcy flags up its computer says no. If you mention bankruptcy to them, they'd probably not book you in for the appt - we wouldn't unless we were very quiet and the customer was very keen to try anyway.

Once the BRU is off, go for it if the account has been run well :)

That's great information thanks, I've always run the account well had it since 2009 my salary gets paid into the account. Account is always in credit and I've never gone overdrawn or had any payments bounce. Hopefully that means the account is run well. I will give them a call to upgrade next month!
