Hi all
Just a quick question. Westcot have asked me to provide them my StepChange or NationalDebline reference numbers to them. Am I right in thinking I shouldn't do this? I don't have to do I????
Thanks

Why wouldn't you want too ?
Giving them the reference number lets them know you have taken advice, so it can only be to your advantage.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi there
I can't speak for Stepchange, but as far as we are concerned it should make no difference one way or the other. Any reference we give you is intended purely to enable you to follow up if/when you contact us again. We would never knowingly divulge your details to a third party just because they could quote a reference number.
What's more important is that you are corresponding with them on your terms and that any offers you are making are affordable.

From my experience (years ago with Consumer Credit Counselling Service - I think the became StepChange), providing your creditors with a reference number tells them that you have taken advice on how to deal with your debts. Subsequent communication (for me, at least) was a lot less aggressive and much more helpful.SPC 9 2015/16 # 451 £266 SPC 10 2016/2017 #451 £273 SPC 11 2017/2018 #451 ?
