Credit Card APR nightmare

Hi all

I wonder if someone can help me.

I returned to work in March this year after having 8 years off to bring up my two boys. During that time I used two credit cards to fund any extra expenses we had (I now realise what a bad move this was). I am now in the situation where I have a Cahoot Card with an interest rate of 15% and an Alliance and Leicester card which I didn’t realise is 29.9%!!!!!!!
I just found out today about the Alliance and Leicester rate. I couldn’t understand why the balance isn’t going down. We are also paying off an Alliance and Leicester loan and a Barclays loan. The A and L loan has 4 yrs left to run and the Barclays one 2 yrs. I really want to throw any extra money that I have a the Alliance and Leicester card and have got about £200 to do this in addition to the monthly payment of about £120.

My question is this: my credit limit is poor because I had a couple of catalogues which I have now paid off and cancelled but there are a couple of late payments on them. Not because I couldn’t afford to pay them but because with the two boys racing around and life generally just being crazy I just forgot. This I now know was a big mistake as I fear it is prohibiting me from getting a 0% deal that I could transfer my A and L card to. What is my best option. Should I try and get another credit card, and if I do, where is the best place to try with a poor credit rating. Or should I just stick with my current card and not put anymore footprints on my credit report. My credit card has gone over the limit today because the interest put on the card this month along with a payment to my call credit (which I had trouble cancelling after the free trial) has put me over my limit.

I don’t know where to start. Please can someone help me.

Many thanks Purple Fluff

PS. Many thanks to you all for your excellent posts, they have really helped me to save some money!
