Please can someone say what to do to claim back regarding a P60 if not working at the end of the tax year as I was out of work on April 5th & read online that you can claim online if you were working at the end of the tax year as you'd be sent a P60 by your employer however I wasn't ?

You'll only be sent a P60 from an employer if you were working for them on 5th April. In your case you weren't so you wont get one. Were you claiming JSA at that time? There has been a suggestion that you should get one from DWP if you were.

As for what you can claim, it's impossible to say without at least some figures - gross (or better, taxable) pay for the year, tax code, tax paid.

Not totally sure what you mean but if eg you worked til Jan/Feb then if you claimed JSA they sometimes liaise with HMRC to send a tax rebate (but often you have to apply to HMRC direct and this would apply if you weren't working but didn't claim JSA).

Although as tax is essentially averaged over the year for salaried people if you eg left in March its unlikely you're owed anything for the eg 3 week period when you weren't working within the 2016/17 tax year. But best checking.

Employers should send a P60 and most do my June/July so you can chase this too.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.

Employers only provide a P60u for those that are in their employment on the 5th April.

  • Why are you expecting different responses from those to your original question? Threads merged.

What exactly is it you're looking to claim back?
Your final payslip and/or P45 will have taxable income and tax deducted, the same figures as on a P60, assuming you had no other income between the date of that employment ending and the beginning of the new tax year.
