I want to work for Trading Standards, how would one go about working for the trading standards? Do I need a degree? Contact my local council?

The ability to conduct independent research would be a useful skill.
Have you tried Googling trading standards jobs? There are many useful resources there, if you take the time to look.0 -
Trading standards is very very hard to get into because of the massive cuts in funding and mass redundancies that took place not too long ago. Each job (when they actually show up) has a lot of people applying for them, and these people are usually the people with a lot of experience in civ serv and are known or those who were made redundant and have experience so competition is fierce. The interview process is crazy too, expect 3 to 4 interviews.
IMO if you have 0 experience in trading standards then I'd keep it as a long term aspiration, you may get lucky.0 -
A friend of mine works in Trading Standards. Staffing has been cut by over 50% in the last couple of years. Lots of experiences staff looking for work so it will be extremely difficult to get into. If you are determined that shouldn't be allowed to put you off trying, but it's as well to know the situation.0
