JSA Advice

Hi all,
I have recently graduated with a degree in photography and I am hoping to set my own business up in the future, but at the moment I do not have a big enough client list to bring in enough income. So to get some kind of income I am looking at JSA in the meantime, would this be recommend?
Thank you in advance.

Yes nothing wrong with applying for job seekers if you agree to the rules.
Apply for part time jobs so it gives you the opportunity to do the photography.0 -
Thank you for your reply.
Should I say to the job centre that I am looking to set up my own business/ freelance photographer, or do I say that I am just looking for work?
As my main priority is my photography, I have my own website and a small client base which I am trying to build up. I didn't want to be taking on a part time job in anything other than photography.I would like to either be a self-employed or employed photographer0 -
its job seekers allowance, not photography job seeking allowance. you will have to look for whatever you are capable of doing and the jcp will make sure you are doing so.
If you dont want to work in non-photography jobs then jsa is not for you.
I dont see what the problem is though, do what you can to support yourself (like other graduates) and work on business or future dream while you're at it. Rarely do you start in your dream job.0 -

I never liked this attitude.
Granted, I totally understand why you wouldn't sign up to 40 hours a week at McDonalds because it doesn't give you much time for anything else...
... but to decline part time work too? You only need to do 2x 8 hour shifts a week to exceed the amount you earn on JSA
That leaves you with 5 days a week to pursue other things, plus you'll have some customer service experience knocking around which will help in the future. 0 -
You will need to spend 35 hours a week on job-seeking activities."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
