I do wonder whether it is the rear hanger that's misaligned - that does involved a major measuring tool that rotates about 90 degrees from the frame to the rear stays and checks alignment - if so, it's designed to bend and even break to avoid damaging the gears and frame but yes, usually in the event of a crash.

I wouldn't turn away from buying online but I would take the bike to the LBS after 6 weeks for a basic service (around £25) to index the gears and check stuff over and that would indicate if there is any obvious frame damage

Incidentally, I wouldn't necessarily call £500 cheap (depending on budget) but in bike terms, it is to be honest, sub £500 is budget, sub £1000 is the cycle to work limit and tends to be the most amateurs will spend. Bikes can easily reach £2500 in normal bike shops, let alone £5000 in more dedicated ones. £100 is more of a throwaway bike price

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I'm not familiar with the bike manufacturer or retailer, the onus would be up to you after 13 months to demonstrate the problem with the frame was a result of a manufacturing defect rather than an impact or some form of accidental damage.

Nasqueron, I was wondering the same about the derailleur hanger.
