Debt sold on

Options
hi all

I received a letter yesterday from credit style limited relating to an outstanding balance from an energy company. However on closer inspection they state that I owe £556.04. The original debt was £516.04. So fair enough account for charges etc. However the fact that my DMP has been paying them £95/month for the last three months has not been taken off the balance so according to energy supplier I still owe them the full amount! I spoke with stepchange who just said I needed to contact credit style LTD to ensure my payments now go to them and find out what is happening with the balance. So four hours later I get hold of these people only to find that the energy company have not told them about these payments and have sold them the original debt? I informed them of my DMP status etc and they are going to consult stepchange but they are also going to contact the energy company to find where the payments have gone. Should I be concerned? I am a tad worried as to where the £280ish has gone if they haven't been clearing it off the balance! Just to add I have tried to contact this energy supplier a lot in the past due to unjust billing etc however never managed to get through to a person despite being on hold for over an hour each time.
Love my DMP left to pay £0/ £10162.51

    Hi

I don’t think you need to worry too much. It should be pretty simple to demonstrate the payments you have made. Either they come off your outstanding balance or you should get the money back.

I think it’s worth keeping everything in writing from now on. If necessary you can make a complaint to the energy ombudsman.
