what are the Uni funds of £100 per month for?

OH is a student - this pays for his university costs like fuel and notepads

I don't separate the cost out into fuel in our budget, I just give him £100 a month into his account and he does what he wants with it.

This is just an aside to the haircuts bit, but I pay £19 every six weeks for 4 of us to have our haircut by using a mobile hairdresser; they are much cheaper as they don't have the overheads of a salon to pay for.

Even mobile hairdressers around here charge £25 for me, £10 for OH and £10 for DS. It's set as £45 because I dye my hair etc and my OH has his hair cut with DS once a month

I think that's a sensible way to do it, does he always use the £100 per month, I'm assuming that's term time only so you get a month reprieve at Xmas & Easter and 3 in the summer?

No I always give him £100 - mainly because I'm the one who got us into debt and I don't want him to suffer for it. So for example, he's only at university for two weeks in December - which means he has £50 left (theoretically) so he often uses that to buy himself a new xbox game or pay for xbox live gold for another year. In the summer the £100 is for him to do stuff with our son, think they went over a bit this year. Think they spent £120 but thats still only £20 a week which includes fuel etc. They did a lot of free things but went bowling. So it all evens out.
