Reclaiming ppi paid on mortgage

Options
Hellooo
I am trying to reclaim PPI that my mum had on her mortgage repayments that she was unaware of. Has anyone got advice on this. I have downloaded a form from Cheltenham and Gloucester.
Is PPI a pre-requisite when you have a mortgage???

Any help or guidance would be most appreciated.

My mum paid 300 pound to CLAIMLINEDIRECT to look into this for her. I got her to cancel that so we could do it ourselves!!

The only reason your Mother would be "unaware" that she purchased this insurance would be because she failed to read the mortgage documentation she signed and then failed to see the separate PPI bill she paid each month!

On what basis are you planning to complain that the insurance was mis-sold? She is destined to fail if she complains it was added without her knowledge or permission.

PPI on mortgages protects probably the single biggest investment, the home. This PPI is still retailed today and doesn't suffer the same lack of audit trail that commonly afflicts loan and credit card PPI.

Well done on cancelling the Claims Company, but it seems she's lost £300 with nothing to show for it..

For some mortgages in the mid 90s it was a requirement to get the mortgage deal. That is allowed as long as the insurance is suitable.

Some brokers required an insurance purchase to enable free mortgage advice to be given. A very common model and one that is allowed as long as the insurance is suitable.

How was she not aware of it?
It was coming out the bank account every month. She signed to agree it

If that is the only complaint reason, then that is a very weak one. Most MPPI complaints are rejected. MPPI suffers fewer issues and is considered more important. This does not mean her complaint wont result in a successful outcome but as it stands, there doesnt appear to be much strength to the complaint.

If your mum was unable to work, who would pay the mortgage?

  • There would not have been PPI within the mortgage repayments with C&G.

A standalone policy would be a separate direct debit.

    Did that happen?

Who sold the policy. C&G largely sold through intermediaries who then sold separate insurance. If that is the case your complaint is against the intermediary, not C&G.
