mortgage admin & product fees

Hi everyone

this is my 1st time in the forum so please bear with me if I ramble on.....

I had a 2year discounted variable rate mortgage with A& L, with the 2 years expiring in Jan 07. I chose to stay with A&L and take another 2year discounted variable rate mortgage. They charged me 250 switcher admin fee and 499 product fee. Is it just me or does this same excessive?

Grateful for your views on this

    Just you.

If you buy a TV from Currys, do you think they give you a replacement free of charge every 2 years?

It costs you nothing to stay on variable but you are choosing to buy a new retail product. Fixed rates incur charges because it costs money to secure lending at that rate. It also comes with risks to the lender. Something we are seeing all too clearly now.
