Getting to end of month without taking out a payday loan

Hi OP,
I just wanted to say you should pursue the payday loan claims.
It is great that you want to take responsibility for what you borrowed but if you can see anything back from the massive rates of interest (which exploit people that are struggling already) that seems fair.
Good luck

Definitely food banks. Don't know which bit of London you're in but in our part (west) I know of half a dozen. You very often have to be referred by CAB or similar so find out your local situation.0

This thread has helped me for years...it's how I discovered that you can actually make money on the internet.
There are lots of ideas: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5517424Your biggest asset is TIME! I'm focused on multi-generational financial freedom.0 -
I added up the interest I paid to quickquid and it is over £2500! I wrote an email to them last night about reclaiming.
I will do 247moneybox later.0 -
I thought you had to be receiving benefits to use food banks. My salary isn;t actually that bad. I just have no savings and don't have parents / a partner to bail me out and not a great credit rating so when I had cash flow issues i thought payday loans would help *hollow laugh*
I will see if I can use them though. I do get free stuff at work though so I am not sure it would be fair for me to take what other people need more. I won't starve thankfully.0 -
Hiya Blue,
To stretch money for food, have a look on Google for Jack monroe, she has a website which I think is currently called cooking on a bootstrap (it changed name a while back) and she has recipes on there there that literally cost pennies.
Also, you mention that you live in London.. when it's haircut time, have a look on Gumtree for free haircuts. There are often academies and student nights at salons looking for people to have their hair cut. It takes a while longer than a normal haircut would do, but it doesn't cost you anything. 😎PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.
Now to start saving...it's a whole new world!!0 -
You don't need to be on benefits for foodbanks, but some only take referrals, so check out what the requirements of your local one is. You may need to bob into Citizens Advice or similar to get a referral.
Also, check out the "I didn't believe I could sell this" thread (or something like that). It's amazing how much money you can make off literal junk - a lot of people out there are actively looking for broken game consoles, bits of bicycles, bedroom doors found in skips...Mortgage

This is an old thread but I'd like to say thank you to those that responded and to let you know that I followed Listerbelle's advice and I have received money back from Peachy, Mr Lender and Quickquid. I am still awaiting the result for complaints on Wonga and 247moneybox.
If anyone here is trapped in a cycle of high-cost borrowing I would recommend looking at https://debtcamel.co.uk/ as you could well be due a refund. I haven't taken out a payday loan since and slowly my financial situation is improving.0
