Can I get out of paying early repayment charges

Hi
Probably a daft question!
But I'm currently with Santander on a 3 yr fixed rate due to end Feb 18.
We wanted to borrow extra money for essential house/garden repairs.
Santander won't let us borrow additional money as a further advance! Say we don't qualify?
I really wanted to stay with them as had no issues with them at all!
But I've had to search for new provider.
So within minutes had an approved mortgage offer off nationwide!
Just wondered if I can get out of the repayment fees in any way? It's not my fault they're refusing to help me?
We've been with them for 8 years, never missed a payment. Owe 85000 on a 250000 property? Seems mad that I have to leave and pay for the honour?!
Probably just crazy rants but thought I'd ask
TIA

Yep, crazy rants indeed. The deal with Santander was the mortgage you took out, not the ability to get any other arbitrary loan you'd like and exit without penalty if that didn't happen.
Unless that's in the contract you signed, you could check it just in case0 -

So, if you feel that way about it, why did you buy that contract? It's not my fault they're refusing to help me?
It is not their fault that you want to break the contract.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Mortgage offer or an AIP? Would take you more than a few minutes to complete the full application form alone. We've been with them for 8 years, never missed a payment.
So what? I've been buying in supermarkets for decades. Despite this they never offer me a free basket of shopping.0 -
Meow what a catty bunch we are!
I said I was ranting and it was probably a daft question, so a simple answer would have sufficed
You could have replied politely, no need for ridicule is there?
Thought it was worth asking!
Anyway thanks I have my answer!0 -
Have Santander indicated why you can't get a further advance?0
