  • Hi Ambershadow

Is yours a council tax debt as well? The fees are set in law, they can't charge interest on top.

They cannot charge interest for Council Tax. There are some situations where a fee is worked out as a % but there's no interest.

Are you able to post a copy of the letter (with personal details blanked out).

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

    Indeed!

Ambershadow - if this enforcement firm is actually suggesting in writing that they can charge interest, then they are either seriously misinformed or they are misleading you; either way it's a poor show and you should consider a complaint if they don't backtrack on this claim.
