If he likes his mash, maybe get his wife to try this variation on the basic Hummus recipe as a surprisingly cheap, useful and easy on the blood-sugar alternative.
Sorry I must have missed the bit where the OP said the bloke in question was so disabled by his condition that he was incapable of making his own flaming hummus!

True - just that my reading of the thread suggested that she is going to have a fair bit of coming to terms with his condition as well and an important role influencing how he copes with it.0 -

Sadly, although probably implied anyway, this guy does actually consider himself incapable of making his own hummus (of course he isn't really, but probably doesn't even know what it is anyway) and is actually very dependent on his wife to keep him alive. He should have been around in the 50s, not born in the 1970s! When he dies, hopefully later rather than sooner, his last words to her will probably be ' See, it's all your fault'.

I have little sympathy with him but lots of sympathy for her situation! The views on here have been really helpful in talking with her about it all. Thank you.0 -
Although once informed about diabetes or its potential, any optician worth their salt should examine the patient much more thoroughly than a standard eye test normally requires.
If you have diabetes you get an annual reminder and eligibility letter, so you can make a free appointment for the extra tests, so there is no need for the optician to be extra careful with the regular checkup, which can be booked at the same session.0
