Are the 'cheap' Miele washing machines any good?

John Lewis have a Miele WDA111 for £619 with £50 cash back and 5 year warranty via redemption.

But are they as good, looking at cleaning proformance and last as long as the expensive machines?

Don't want to buy it and it be rubbish and think I should have bought a Samsung ecobubble at £350 with a 5 year warranty.

Google reviews and they're nearly all good.

I have used Miele appliances for 30 years, always good & long-lasting.
I have never heard of them doing *cheap* copies and would be surprised if either Miele or John Lewis would lend their name to something of lower quality.
However, I could be wrong - I'd try ringing JL customer service and ask them. Miele do have a habit of changing models and you can pick up the recently outdated quite cheaply - so that may be why.

I've had a Miele for ages and it has been brilliant - can't believe they would do 'cheap' ones which would let the brand down.

The issue I've had with Miele washing machines is that they only take a small load, so are no good for my needs.
  • Just to disagree with prowla - if you like to also wash small loads then be careful about getting machines with very large capacities, as they can be damaged by smaller loads. They will be fine if you always put eg an 8kg load in, but if you are also washing 2-3 kg loads then they can get bearing damage from the load not being able to balance in a big drum.

Most of the manuals state this in the small print, and a sales assistant at a good shop like John Lewis will tell you this!

Most of the cheaper Miele's have a max 7kg capacity which is perfect for a variety of load sizes including small ones. When I researched this, the 'cheaper' Miele's differed from the more expensive ones only by having a far less fussy soap tray, and a slightly less extensive range of programmes. It is the same basic machine.

A few months ago I bought a WDA101, which was the previous model and I am very pleased with it.

That one didn't have the 5 year guarantee, I nearly got the WDA111 but they have a good track record so I took a chance.
