Can teachers do salary sacrifice

My partner is going to be a teacher. Can they do salary sacrifice as part of the teachers pension?

Nope. Public employees cannot salary sacrifice. They can make extra contributions which will decrease their salary but it will not cut their NI contributions.

If she wants to pay extra into their pensions she may want to compare AVCs. I found the TP's suggested AVC adviser to not be such great value. I can't emphasise enough how important it is to start paying extra early.

There is significant life insurance included and this may be helpful when/if mortgage companies demand a life insurance policy.

If she wants to transfer an existing pension into the TP scheme, she may need to do it in the first year, (if that's possible at all).
