Christmas Menus

  • Wow! These menu's sound fantastic! I can't wait for xmas dinner this year - forget the prezzies!

    Christmas Eve

We don't usually do a specific meal, but this year I may start a new tradition, like Chinese Takeaway or something :rotfl:

    Christmas Day

-Breakfast. This is usually something quick and easy as we are in a hurry to open prezzies. I might make some kind of cinnamon porridge though, Tine's rice pudding gave me some great inspiration.
-Lunch. This is usually a complete feast. No fuss with starters as the meal is huge enough! (It's only Christmas once a year isn't it? :p) Turkey crown, Lamb and Beef, Pigs in Blankets, Yorkshire puds, Roast Spuds, Caramelized parsnips, Chantonnay carrots, sugar snap peas, sprouts and curly kale. Topped of by that fabulous gravy that bisto do :o (Bisto Best with meat juices maybe? lol!)
-"Tea". For our tea, if we haven't stuffed our faces too much with chocolate or dinner remains then we'll usually have some HM xmas cake then a nice selection of cheese and crackers.

    Boxing Day

-Breakfast. Nothing too fancy. Maybe a small fry up this year.
-Lunch. A lovely cold gammon cooked from the night before, with some left over meats from yesterday. Served with a massive selection of salads and things like pork pies and mini sausages. Buffet style meal basically.
-Tea. I haven't really thought about tea yet. We will probably be visiting family in the evening so hopefully someone will offer us a nice dinner! :rotfl:

Welcome! Zabaglione is something my dad used to make and 1/2 the fun was watching him. It's an Italian pudding / custardy-foamy egg dessert, with the eggs 'cooked' by the sugar and Marsala wine

    Recipe for Zabaglione
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/zabaglione_5294.shtml

I think my dad had his copper bowl over hot water, not directly over the heat (as the Beeb recipe seems to instruct).

    Christmas Ice Cream

    140g (5oz) raisins
    100g (4oz) sultanas
225g (8oz) glace cherries roughly chopped
4 tablespoons brandy (I used sherry- no brandy)
100g (4oz)whole blanched almonds roughly chopped
    1x200g packet marshmallows
250ml (1/2 pint) semi skimmed milk
    2 tablespoons cocoa powder
    1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
    500ml (1 pint) double cream

    1. Mix all the fruit together in a large bowl, pour over the brandy and soak for 2-3 hours, mix in the almonds.

    2. Melt the marshallows, milk, cocoa powder and instant coffee granules over a gentle heat, stirring occasionally, leave to cool.

    3. Pour the cooled mixture over the mixed fruit and stir thoroughly. Freeze for about 2 hours until it begins to harden around the edges, then whisk well.

    4. Whip the double cream with an electric or hand whisk and fold into the semi-frozen mixture. Pour the mixture into a 1.75 litre (3 pint) bowl and freeze overnight until hard.

    5. To serve, remove from the freezer and dip the bowl into a basin of hot water, making sure that the ice cream does not melt too much. Turn out onto a serving plate, then decorate with glace cherries and holly dusted with icing sugar.

ENJOY ! Serves at least 10

  • I dont cook much over xmas..

xmas eve...buffet/nibbles tea for kids b4 they goto bed:rotfl:
xmas day bacon buttys for breaky...then off to the family for lunch n tea:rotfl:
  • This year OH and I will be spending Christmas in our favourite cottage in North Devon, just the two of us lolling around in a great big four poster bed :D Will see both families before Christmas (neither set of parents mind us not being there for Christmas Day...we all agree that it's fun to stretch Christmas out...especially as OH's mum will be working on Christmas Day)

    Provisional menu for Christmas Day:

Breakfast - Smoked salmon sandwiches - we plan on taking our breakfast to the beach and dipping our toes in the sea :) Will no doubt wash the sandwiches down with something alcoholic :D

Lunch - Curried parsnip soup, bread, cheese

Dinner - Roast turkey, sausage and bacon rolls, spicy red cabbage (going to make it at home and transport down in cool bag), roast potatoes, roast parsnips, stuffing (I never put this in the bird, I always make it like my grandma did - prepare stuffing mix, whack into greased pyrex dish lid, press down - should be 1-2cm thick - dot with butter and pop in oven), and brussel sprouts x lots (if I can I grab the ones still on their stalks in Sainsburys). All served with cranberry sauce and redcurrant jelly.

Homemade Christmas pudding - made by my Mum, according to Grandma's recipe. Served with brandy butter for me (again HM according to Grandma!) and clotted cream for OH.
DFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

  • mm sounds lovely that going away for christmas and have smoked salmon for breakfast! not sure about dipping toes in the sea though-might be a bit cold... lol.

i dunno if this helps u at all, but our local indoor market does those nice spouts on the stalks u know and they are half the price of sainsburys.

hope u have great time anyway, be nice change.

    noggin :)
  • Christmas Eve Supper - Roast Ham with Roast spuds and salad.

I put the ham in before we go to the Christingle service at church (which always makes me cry!!), then we hurry back home as Santa and his Sleigh visits the estate where I live. (Dont think its the real one as he would be far too busy I think)

    Christmas Day:

Breakfast - Cereals for me and hubby
    Selection Box contents for kids!!!!

Lunch - Roast Chicken and Roast Beef
    Roast Spuds and Cheesy Mash
    Roast Garlic Parsnips
    Carrots, Peas, Brussell Sprouts
    Yorkshire Puds
Mums special sloppy stuffing (very tasty but has adverse "windy" side effects!!)

Pudding for me and Mum (but usually a couple of hours later as we are stuffed)
Ice Cream for Hubby and the kids

Supper - Left over Roast and Salad. Cheese and biscuits

Boxing day - Left over roast and fry up with lots of HP sauce (possibly the best meal of the whole occasion.
