Joint Application for Right to Buy

My uncle occupies the a council house which my family has been in for over 60 years. He is 79 years old.

I'd like to help my uncle buy this house so he can live out the rest of his days in it and we can keep it in the family. I would eventually like to retire there as I I also grew up in the house.

However I am currently living in the US for work and much of my funds are US based.

My questions is, how could I be a joint applicant on purchasing the property and executing the process.

I understand there is a requirement to be resident at the property for a year to take part in a joint purchase. this would not be an issue if I had to come home.

How might I go about this process?

Why would he not be able to live out the rest of his days in it without buying it?
Remember buying the home will mean that it could be sold to pay his care home fees once/if this becomes necessary
