Nationwide unable to provide statements?

Options
Hi all,

Not sure if this is the best forum to post in but I'm hoping someone can help.

Basically, I am trying to get a full statement of my Nationwide current account. I don't use the account any more but am still paying off the overdraft. It's currently with their Collections department.

I spoke to someone earlier in the week who arranged for statements to be sent, however they end suddenly in 2012. I have been on the phone for 40 minutes today trying to get hold of statements after this date but the lady wasn't able to provide them. She kept going away to speak to someone in the Collections dept. and apparently they can view all the transactions on the screen but they have no way of sending it out to me as it is a "ghost" account!? She then aid that in effect the debt had been sold to Payplan so they should have copies of everything.

She then suggested that I send off a Subject Access Request, which would cost £10.

Does this sound right? What I don't understand is, if they physically are unable to send me the statements, how would sending an SAR off change that? I don't want to end up paying £10 for the information I already have.

Has anyone had this issue before?

    Hi Hollip0p,

If the debt is with the collections department then I assume it has defaulted which means that you won't get statements on the account like you used to when the account was active. You can request a breakdown of the debt (I would suggest you do this in writing) and hopefully that would be more successful.

However, if they still refuse or insist on the SAR request I would suggest that you actually just make a Consumer Credit Act (CCA) request. This will cost £1 and whilst they are not obligated to send a true copy of the original agreement they will need to send a breakdown of the account (which is what you want anyway).

I am not sure what they mean about the debt being 'sold' to Payplan - this is not possible. If you are on DMP with Payplan they may already have this information and it may save you some hassle. Good luck,
