Emergency Tax question

Options
Hi, Hope someone can answer this question, my husband started a new job which is with an agency for the first 12 weeks. He got his first weeks payslip yesterday and his tax code on his wageslip was 1210M W1 because this is an emergency tax code is this why he has paid tax on his wages? Looking back at his last jobs paylips which he was on the same money, he never paid any tax.

Thanks.

I am not an expert on tax but with the marriage allowance "the M on the tax code",the amount 1210 is his right code with the allowance.

My hubby has the same tax code but not with the W1.
Did he put a P45 in to the agency?,if not, then he should get any tax back he has paid eventually.

If I am wrong,I am sure someone will put me right!.
  • No, he is due to send it in next week.

    Thanks for your reply.

Without knowing what his gross pay was it's impossible to say whether he should have paid tax or not. Expecting a sensible answer without providing one of the two key pieces of information is pretty optimistic (even more information would be required to give a complete answer, but pay and tax code are absolutely essential).

tax is about detail so you haven't provided enough information

however on a 1210M W1 code he would pay tax on a weekly wage over £233 approx.

"Emergency tax codes are usually updated automatically after you’ve given your new employer your P45."

For full explanation you need to give full details.
From first payslip in new job and from last payslip you have from old job need the following details....
Taxable gross, tax paid, tax code and basis, tax week or month, taxable gross to date and tax paid to date.
Also I assume as no P45 issued yet is another payslip due from old employer; if so aprox gross if known?
