Proving debt DCA claims I owe

Hi all,
I sent off a prove it letter to a DCA a while ago ( I think about two months ago) as they were chasing me for an alleged debt which I asked them to prove. Today I received a response from them and a copy of a credit agreement that I had signed - however, they have sent me an agreement for a company I do not recall using in the past and the said agreement is just a simple tick box instead of a signature and my name next to it - not of my actual signature- and I feel that this could have just been made up by anyone.
Can anyone please advise of the next steps? Also, the original letter from the DCA stated a debt of around £600, and the DCA letter today states this amount is now almost £2,500.
Many thanks,
Skint

Hi,
Write back and tell them what you've told us, that they have not sent sufficient evidence to prove liability, that anyone could of cobbled that information together.
The proof, should be enough of the following list to prove that you do (or did) owe the money, or indeed indicate that it is somebody else who is the Debtor:
Credit Application; Loan Agreement;
Statement of Account showing details and dates of debits and credits including payments, interest and charges to the account and the current amount outstanding;
Copy of Default notice, copy of formal demand; and
where the debt has been sold, copies of letters from original creditor stating that, plus letters from current creditors stating that.
If they can produce these, they may jog your memory. Not all the items on the list may be available, but enough of them have to be to clarify the situation if they want to pursue you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I think it’s also worth checking your credit reference files. If the debt doesn’t show with any of the main three credit reference agencies there a good chance it’s either not your debt or statute barred.
