Use a mortgage adviser or go it alone?

Ok so my mortgage is up in a few months and in the past I have always used an adviser. Being a little older now and maybe (not 100%) wiser I was thinking of trying to find my own. Are there any pitfalls I really need to look out for?
I feel like using an adviser is good in one way but will they not go with the deals that benefits them more?
Thanks

Not in a closely regulated profession. Nor does it make sense on a business level anyway.I am a Mortgage Broker

Why not do both? Do your own research, but also engage a broker. If they are being remunerated by the lenders it's no cost to you. That way you reduce the hassle (by using the broker to do the leg work on the application [remembering that finding the best deal is only a very small part of the process]) but also have your piece of mind that they've acted in your best interest (as you have your own research to compare their advice to).0
