I need a kick up the backside

  • Thanks all ( I especially like the pink kick!)

Splurges on stuff like the MG are why I have such big debts. What's really stupid is I find myself thinking "oh well, I owe so much anyway a bit more won't hurt". People like me shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a credit card!

My wife and I earn fairly good money (we are both senior nurses - you'd think we'd know better) so we can "afford" the repayments on our debts. If one of us stops working though...

My SOA is full of the usual suspects: Sky, charity payments, magazine subscriptions, gym membership ...

We can, just ,afford the lifestyle we have, but I get angry with myself when I think of the lifestyle we could have if we weren't spending nearly £1500 (about my wifes take-home pay) a month on card and loan repayments. Just seeing that written down makes me feel awful.

On the up side, we have a major loan finishing next May which will free up £400 a month. The challenge for me is not to blow that on anything but use it to reduce our total debt. I'll be asking nearer the time for advice about utilising that sensibly.

Anyway, thanks for all the kicks ;) just what I need. I just hope they aren't wasted on this waster.

You said earlier on that you wanted to be able to help your oldest son when he goes to uni - if you want to do that, you will have to start being sensible with your money asap. If you want to scare yourself, sit down and add up how much money you are paying in interest every month on your £30000 debt (not the repayment, just the interest) - that is all money that you and your wife are working hard to earn, and you are handing it straight over to someone else. What a waste.
  • Just checked and got to £300 a month interest and stopped counting

Never looked at it like that as such.

I really need to stay on this forum to keep motivated - I'd been off for months and look what I did
