Always used D&A... now due for a check-up and I know I need a new pair of glasses. I basically want just 1 pair (designer frames, regular lenses).
I've seen Specsavers do a 30% student discount. (Anybody know how much they charge for an eyetest?)
D&A (online) give out 50% off eye-test vouchers. (Anybody know how much they charge now for an eye test?) They also seem to be giving away a voucher for 10% off glasses. Vision Express seem to have the exact same deal...
Without going into each though it's a bit hard to work out which will work out cheapest. Anyone have a rough idea on which tends to work out cheapest? And are there any other better offers going on than those advertised?
Thanks!

sight test fees vary from place to place. you mention the student discount, if you are a full time student age 18 or under, you will get your eye test for free, and extra help towards glasses, Specsavers will do a complete pair of designer spex for £30 if that applies to you! (not sure what price the other places are, I work at specsavers)
if you are a student over the age of 18 and have a low income (as most students do) you should get a HC1 application for a HC2 (Help with healthcare costs) Form. this will also entitle you to free eye tests and money off glasses (that designer pair at specsavers would work out at £40 if you just want 1 pair)
If neither of these apply to you, you can get your eyes tested wherever is cheapest for that then take your prescription to any opticians to order the spex!Wiggly:heartpulsFB0 -
DS1 had his eyes tested at D&A over the summer, and I'd printed off a voucher for a free eyetest for him but he said they didn't want him to pay anyway because he's a student. He doesn't have an HC1 or anything like that so I wonder if their eyetests at least would be free? And then you can go elsewhere for the specs, as wish says above.Signature removed for peace of mind0

There is a form HC11 available online at https://www.dh.gov.uk/publications that explains all help with health costs such as eye tests, dental treatment etc.. You can also phone a helpline to get a hard copy 08701 555 455.
I also think you get a free eye test when you join the health club part of the Boots Advantage Card.
When you have your eyes tested always ask for a copy of your prescription- apart from anything else some countries require you to carry a copy with you when you drive. you can order your actual specs from anywhere you like, although if you are on benefits you must get your NHS voucher from the person who tests your eyes. You can still take that voucher and use it anywhere. Hope this helps.earn what you can, save what you can, give what you can :hello:0 -
