Hi ,
Just wanted to say thanks for all the help... Not posted much but have scanned the forum regularly.
Tonight will end my 1 year of bankruptcy.
Its been a tough year - the procedure of going bankrupt was fairly easy however its not the cure to the problem. I struggled with changing my spending habits and learning to budget- which was made worse by supporting 4 adults and then a baby on 1 wage leading to some mental and physical health problems
The last 3 months have seen a big chnage, i have budget planned until June next year, although not rolling in money its been nice to be able to plan a family holiday. Things are impoving.
Having read various post i am assuming that from midnight tonight my name will be removed from the register.
Couple of questions-
When is the best time to get my credit reports ? Should i leave it a couple of months before starting the clear up.
Do i start with a credit card now or wait until the 6yrs are done ?
Will i hear from the OR again ? Ive not had a IPA, i did pay my council tax and income tax to wilmot clark up until April and had a letter saying that payment schedule was finished.
Any other advice om what i should be doing ?
Again , thanks for the help and to anyome elae starting the process be assured that the 1st year can look scarey but before you know it you reach that important milestone quickly

Hi there, I was discharged last week and I applied for a vanquis and capital one credit card and got them both. Granted it was only £200 for one and £500 for the other but it's a start. Capital one say to 100% accept you also.0 -
I would leave the clean up for a couple of months to give them time to update,
that's you all done really, onwards and upwards!!0 -
I didn't realise - that once you are discharged you can check online - I was waiting, and had heard nothing, but on searching I found out myself when I had been discharged.... You don't get a letter. Might be worth searching the insolvency register for yourself to see if you've been discharged. (Which you should have been).0
-
Also a good idea to print of a couple...it only shows for 3 months then its gone0
-
many thanks,
I have printed off the discharge from the insolvency website.
I also did a soft search on s credit card here as I was bit nervous of having a application on my credit score which might be turned down.
I got a 95% eligibility so went ahead and applied, got a call 20 minutes later and confirmed some details- approved for vanquis and a limit of £1000 !!! This scares me somewhat but I have decided to use it for fuel only as I have a set amount each month.
its feels very strange and a sense of huge responsibility as the last thing I want is to end up in the same position- but learning from mistakes and making good changed and positive new habits will deter me from going down the wrong road.0 -
I think £1000 so soon after discharge is really good.
Over the last year I've managed to pick up quite a big amount of avalible credit, I do worry sometimes about my old habits, but I never want to be in the same position again. Bankruptcy once in a lifetime is enough! I owed a huge amount in the original bankruptcy for years I thought I should never be allowed credit again. I guess I need to forgive myself and move on!0 -
Yeah £1000 is a bloody good start so use it wisely. Asking as you pay it off in full each time you use it then that's good.
Enjoy being discharged and the road back.0 -

I wasn't aware of that either - which was why when I tried to find it later - it was gone... Not that I needed it - but I'm constantly checking my history and profiles whilst working out what's what.0 -
I applied to the court one week after AD, it cost me £70. I realise it is not in the least bit necessary but the official discharge certificate has given me peace of mind for anything that may turn up in the future. I read that this is only available 5 years after AD but do not know for certain.
So £70 for my peace of mind is worth it to me."Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety". - Benjamin Franklin0 -
I'm confused. My debt relief order got discharged in the first week of August and credit files are showing it as discharged. Although many debts aren't yet marked as satisfied/settled- so many people on here get accepted for a capital one or vanquis. I applied to vanquis but had a debt with them in my DRO so obviously got declined. I thought capital one would accept me but they declined me also. I've been running a mobile contract wicked Adobe well for over 18 months and car insurance all on time, as well as a sim only deal with Id mobile just for the green ticks. I am quite gutted I got declined when it seems straight after discharged everyone gets them0
