Help!! Opos ltd

hello,

I am hoping someone can give me some advice as to what I can do regarding my Opos debt,

many years ago I think back in 2012/2013 I borrowed £300 of mini credit,

cut a long story short, I am now in a DMP and have been happily paying back all my creditors at an agreed rate, however with OPOS the debt just seems to keep rising and I don't understand how they can get away with this or expect people to pay it.

so here’s the facts,

I borrowed £300,
I have to date paid Opos £588.66
they are still demanding an extra £2322.56.

is there anything I can do to get this amount down? and where have they come up with the "amount" as it completely baffles me as to how its rose so much when I have been paying monthly repayments and have nearly paid back double what I originally borrowed

I look forward to your replies

  • Enough is enough approach in the absence of the Financial Ombudsman Service getting involved, I would certainly try there but something tells me it's a dead end. Presuming you've paid back the original agreement amount of the high interest loan, you must firmly tell them you've paid and will not be paying any further.

If going to the FOS is open then you should persue it for this matter alone.

    Hi,

First off, you must make a written complaint to the company concerned, and allow them time to sort the matter out for you.

If they do not do this to your satisfaction, or 8 weeks have past, then you can complain to the ombudsman.

The FCA has now essentially banned this kind of loan, however the figures you have given us seem very excessive, and although the change in the law does not apply retrospectively, I would say they would have a hard time trying to enforce an agreement such as this through a court.

I think the FOS would also deem it unaffordable to you as well.

Start with the written complaint, mention affordability as a factor, I would also go as far as to ask for your balance to be written off, and a refund of interest paid, as the interest charges seem ridicules to me.

  • Thank you for your quick replies,

Regarding writting a complaint letter, is there anywhere I could get a template for this? As I've never wrote a complaint letter in my life and wouldn't even know where to start, I couldn't believe my eyes when i logged in to my DMP to see how I was getting on and then saw that it has rissen by such an amount.

    Many thanks

Give me more detail about the loan, what kind of agreement you have etc etc, times and dates, interest rates, what there reaction was about the DMP, and I`ll put something together for you.

    Leave out personal info obviously.

This is the National Debtline version template letter to stop interest.
As I don't know what type of agreement you have with this company, you could adapt this to your own specific situation.

You could, if you wished, add something at the bottom about refunding some of what you have already paid, or reducing, writing off your existing balance, but again, it depends on the type of loan this is.

  • I emailed my DMP stating my concerns about the amount that I owe Opos, and Opos have come back and said that when the debt got passed over to them it was £2899, which i can confirm in the phone call I recieved on the 14/05/2013 also stated the same amount, although they did say that they would accept £1000 within 7 days and the debt would of been cleared, so it appears that they haven't actually added any interest since 2013, my concern now is how did a £300 loan turn into a £2899 debt, I'm assuming that mini credit added all these charges & fee's before they handed the debt over, if that is the case, is there anything I can do about it or do I have to pay what they are saying I owe?

    Thank you
  • Any help or advice would be appreciated
