I once read that if you leave a burnt pan upside down on the grass overnight it will get rid of the burnt bits, can't say I've tried it though!

A plastic bottle top is good for scrubbing it off and cream cleaner to soak then add some when cleaning. I wouldn't throw out a pan!

You could try boiling vinegar in the pan. I boiled dry beetroot once, I intended to pickle it and the resulting vinegar in the pan cleaned it, reasonably well.

24 hour soak in diluted vinegar does it for me.

    I love skip diving.

  • Washing powder, denture tablets or vinegar, add them to just boiled water and let the pan soak overnight
  • I use my husband! He's stronger than me, an overnight soak and the pan scrubber and him work wonders :)
  • Thanks everyone for all the useful tips. In the end, I chose to use Laundry Powder (as so many of you recommended it) and boiling water, and left to soak, then a bit of scrubbing and all the black is off. Very useful to know (as, no doubt, it will happen again!)
