Do you not have to be classified as a home worker for claiming tax relief for working from home?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Yes, although those who work from home voluntarily can be paid by their employee for use of home up to £4/week tax free.

ok my sis works two days at home out of five a week, so two home, 3 office/on road
she also works a full week from home at the end of each month. shes PAYE and employed so how would she be classified as a home worker?. she said it was the taxman who told her a few yrs ago she cant claim for home use expenses which from what ive read she can?

does her contract of employment require her (in writing) to work at home on specified days? Note that is not the same as her voluntarily agreeing with the boss that she can work at home on certain days.

Given she is clearly not home based, since she attends the office/is on the road more than she is at home, I don't know what you read but, in principle, what "the taxman" told you is correct - sounds like she is ineligible. Read this, paying attention to the final point

    thankyou thats really helpful :)
  • Not too sure, but I guess it definitely depends on the hours, I tried checking it on Google to see if there is anything there, but unfortunately wasn’t able to find it. I do found the above link useful, but still as you said; I can’t see any mention of hours there.
