Cleaning tea light holders

I have loads of round glass candle holders, leftover from burning the contents. I'd like to give them to the charity shop / donate on Freecycle, but they are still a bit waxy. I've cleared the wicks and most of the wax out but would like to get them into a sparkly state, using and old toothbrush and I don't know quite what? Any suggestions?

I scrape out what I can with a butter knife then put them in the dishwasher. Probably not good for the DW but they come up lovely!

I have cleaned some with boiling water - the wax melts and with very little encouragement floats and then forms a solid layer on top when the water cools again.

Put the glass holders in the microwave on a few layers of kitchen roll or cut up old rag and melt the remaining wax deposits. Wipe off while still warm but also be careful not to burn yourself. You can then give the holders a dunk into soapy boiling water for a final clean.

Place on a baking tray lined with kitchen roll and then use your hairdryer to melt any remaining wax off. No chance of catching fire or burning yourself.

Once all the visible wax is off, then wash in hot soapy water and should be all sparkly.

This is what I usually do, but it doesn't get them sparkly clean (there's always a bit of a residue left on the inside of the glass), so I may try squiggles' method. I've also had a PM from a newbie, recommending freezing and peeling the wax off. I'll do a compare and contrast over the weekend and report back!
