Could signing up to broadband just before completing ruin everything?

I've just exchanged and have a moving in date for a weeks time. I'd love to sign up to a broadband deal so that the modem can be delivered to where I am now and would be ready to plug in and get going as soon as I move in (it's a self install kit).

I'm just concerned that signing up to a broadband contract could mess things up. It requires a credit check and I've heard that some banks run a final credit check the day before completion to make sure you haven't taken on any new debt etc.

It seems obvious to me that most people would sign up for broadband after moving in so I doubt it would have any impact on my mortgage but after over 18 years of saving and waiting I don't want to do anything to mess it up!

I was very surprised to find that my credit rating shot up after applying for a mortgage so maybe this could even help.

The easy answer is of course to just wait but I wanted to see if anyone had any definite answer on this, specifically with Barclays/Woolwich.

This forum has been a great help to me throughout the process and if anyone is interested I could write quite a lengthy account of my experience to help other first time buyers out.

It's ok to do it , you need around 10 working days notice to get it working at the new address anyway

You'll be fine, if you already have broadband you could just request a home move, therefore no new credit checks.

Even still, broadband is a standard utility and the lender would have taken this type of payment into consideration when you applied for the mortgage.
