Prize lesser value than stated

Hi all i won a facebook comp for a £500 weber gas bbq it arrived last friday but have only gotten round to having a good look at it now. They have sent me a weber Q2200 which to my knowledge is only valued at £299 (bbq and stand) some places have it at £350 this is the bbq stand and cover cant find it anywhere valued at £500. I am not being ungrateful as winning a bbq was on my to win list and its the 2nd comp i have won since i started comping but feel cheated somehow...the terms and conditions state..16 In the event that a prize becomes unavailable,the Promoter reserves the right to substitute an alternative prize of equal or similar value. would anyone query this with the company?

The £500 might be for RRP, Try and contact them and ask if a mistake was made? I was lucky i was after a Nuband but won speakers but got a email saying they were out of stock and would i like the newest Nu-band (better then the one in the comp), I just said yes and they sent me the best one on there site.

I know how you feel, If it is on your wish list and it arrives and is not what is stated you feel down. Hope you get a reply from them

so you may have received one a level down from that for some reason.


It is a tricky one - it's a fairly big value prize and you may not get much sympathy, but if the 3200 looks much more attractive to you then you could always try a polite query.

Thanks for your input MakeandSave i have looked at the RRP for the weber Q2200 with the stand (the one i got) and it is coming in at £379.99 RRP. the Weber Q3200 with stand is coming in at £499.99 rrp think i will email the company and ask if it's a mix up in the delivery as both bbq's are the same just a newer version

I have found the Q2200 on sale for £459* plus delivery so it's possible it has been £500 at some point somewhere, stated values are nearly always as high as possible and bear little relation to what you would actually have to pay for something - presumably they didn't mention a model number in the prize details..

This is a common thing with prize values, they always use the highest RRP figure they can get away with. Most of my wins have been like this, the higher the value the bigger the discrepancy. About a year ago I won one of those boiling hot water taps for the kitchen, it was valued at around £1600 but when I looked around at actual retail prices it was closer to £600. I also won a designer floor lamp a few years ago, again, valued at £1800 but actual sales were for around £1100 or less.

It happens with smaller prizes too, over the last couple of years I have won those Gastro Goodiboxes on the Mag Dailys 5 times, the value of the contents was supposed to be around £50 but they always actually came to around £19-£20 when you look at supermarket prices.

It can also go the other way too, earlier this year I won a set of knives from one of the C2W sites, they said it had a value of £50 but when I looked them up it was over £90.

Incidentally I won a BBQ from Napoleon Grills in June valued at £500, funnily enough it actually does sell for around that figure.
