Heavy footprint after mortgage application

Hi ,

Recently applied for a mortgage through TSB and they carried out their credit check on the same day the application went in. It reads on my experien report that they carried out six searches , P1, P2 and so on... One of the searches was labelled an 'unregistered enquiry ' with a term of 36 months at £217 per month. The latter search can't refer to a mortgage as it would be for a much longer term at alot more than £217 pcm.

Can anyone shed any light on what all this means and why so many checks?

Thanks in advance !

Not being snarky (really) but I wonder why you'd care? You are applying for a mortgage. You'd expect a bunch of checks to be made. People seem to obsess about how many checks that are made agaisnt them as if they are hoarding money in the bank or something.

As for the specific £217 per month for 36 months, do you have a car loan or similar or plan to take one out? Child care? Some other item you mentioned to them? Seems unlikely anyone here is going to be able to specifically state why that much for that long so if it really bothers you ask them. It might just be a mistake.

Yes, whilst I expect a bunch of checks to be made im still cautious that unnecessary checks are not carried out or checks duplicated accidentally which may have an impact on my credit file... Also , aside from that it's partly out of nervous excitement that I want to understand what is being checked with re. to my individual application. I was hoping that perhaps a broker or perhaps somebody working in data entry for loan/ insurance companies could shed some light and respond so I didn't feel it would be a wasted post.

With regards to the 36 month check, I don't have any current credit commitments , however , I did have a car on hire purchase but that was £300 a month, not £217. Like you say, it may be worth a call.

    Cheers
