9,036 nectar points

Options
I've been accruing nectar points for years and have £45.18 worth, what is the best 'value-for-money' way of spending them. As far as I can see, a tank of petrol is my best bet but, good value eating out etc would be a good alternative.

Ideally I want more than £45.18 worth of stuff for my points. I only shop at Sainsburys for my petrol as I consider it expensive compared to Aldi so I would probably not spend my points on groceries.

Thanks

If you want household items, you could use points at Argos. You can also convert them to use on Ebay for payment,

  • I had around that and put it towards a rug for the living room. Surely you want to put it toward something that offers long term value? A tank of petrol lasts a week or two!
  • Or you could hang on to them until the next Sainsbury's double-up event. That way you could "buy" something that's double their value, something electrical perhaps? (I think there is a limit to how many points you can double-up but not sure what it is sorry!)

The limit has been a per category limit of £20 doubled to £40. There's also a one coupon per category limit, so you can't double £10 and then go back and double another £10. No limit to the number of categories you can utilise though. I doubled £50 worth last time around.

can you put them towards clothes when there's a TU 25% off sale (as there is now)?

Double up seems to be best value.

Buy some things for the house, or for Christmas or, if you can be bothered and don't need them yourself, current video games can usually be sold on for close to their full price.

I buy my sons' Playstation Network card thing for £40 each year in these events.

Just be aware you need to have used your Nectar card in the store you want to use sometime in the last 12m (I think)

You can have double discount (so an item that is reduced anyway will get an extra 25% off at the moment.) In the past, the clothing sale and the double up event have always missed each other by at least a day. I can't imagine that Sainsbury's would ever allow the two to run in parallel.

You can use Nectar points at their face value to buy items during the 25% off TU. I did this the other day. You can only spend points in £2.50 multiples, so may need to make up the last part of the balance by cash/card.

There is no limit to the number of coupons issued. My friend bought an Actifry and she used 2x£20 and 1x£10. It only cost her about a fiver as she had a £29 gift card for buying some insurance.
